Shillong, November 22, 2016: Thai princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will arrive in the city on Wednesday afternoon.
The princess will land at the helipad in Upper Shillong around 2 pm. From there, she is scheduled to visit the Sacred Groves in Mawphlang. Thereafter, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will host an early dinner for the state guest at Hotel Pinewood before she leaves for Sohra.
Former Cabinet Minister AL Hek, who is coordinating with the Thailand Embassy since last month, said two presidential suits has been prepared at Polo Orchid Resort in Cherrapunjee and special equipment have been transshipped to the resort to ensure fast and better internet connectivity.
East Khasi Hills DC PS Dkhar said the princess’s itinerary also includes Mawlynnong, Living Root Bridge and Nohkalikai falls.
On November 25, the princess will visit Shillong again and here she will meet the Vice Chancellor of NEHU at the university. She will also visit Don Bosco Museum in Mawlai before proceeding to Guwahati.
Dkhar said all preparations have been made and even a trial was done on Monday to ensure smooth traffic flow during the high-profile visit.
The city police have tightened security for the Thai princess.
The princess is paying an official visit to India from November 20-25 to receive the first World Sanskrit Award at the invitation of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations. Apart from Meghalaya, the princess is also scheduled to visit Assam.
