Fishing, Hunting & Gathering Gallery

Fishing, hunting and gathering represent the oldest livelihood strategies of humankind. Although much has changed, till today fishing, hunting and gathering are important livelihood means for many people across the world. So is the case in North East India.

Although hunting and gathering is practiced much less today than it was in the past, its techniques and implements are an important part of the history and material culture of the region.

This gallery introduces us to the artifacts which were traditionally used for fishing, hunting and gathering. On display, we will find a wide array of traditional implements as they were used, and some of them continue to be used by different communities of the region. Each item has a small name board on which you will find the name of the implement as well as the community which uses it.
