About the book
The North-Eastern States are a melting pot of different racial groups partly segregated from the mainstream by geography and culture. Unlike others, many communities of the North-Eastern States have very little by way of recorded history and written literature. In the absence of written records, the mythological accounts, legends, folktales, folk songs and proverbs are the means used by a pre-literate people to bequeath their traditions and culture to posterity. For ages these customs have been imbibed in their oral tradition and then handed down from one generation to the next. The purpose of this book is to compile some of the customary laws of these microscopic communities. Customary laws provide rules, enforcement procedures and punishment for violation; they are guardians of tribal values and are intrinsic to tribal identity. In a globalised society there is need to showcase the customary laws of microscopic communities which form part of the world of cultures.
About the Author
Ms. belongs to a very microscopic community called Koren/Koireng. She hail from and is born at Sadu Koireng village, Senapati District, Manipur. Neishoning did her schooling from Kangpokpi Mission High School, Manipur. She graduated from Women’s College, Shillong and took her post graduation from a Central University, Tezpur. At present she is pursuing her Ph.D degree in the Department of Cultural and Creative Studies, NEHU, Shillong under the supervision of Prof. Desmond L. Khawmawphlang.
